"How to Design Business Cards That Stand Out (and Get Noticed!)"

Writer: Brianne Brianne

Your business card is often the first impression people have of your brand—so make it count! A well-designed card can leave a lasting impact, while a poorly made one can end up in the trash. Here’s how to create a business card that stands out.

1. Pick the Right Size and Shape

Standard business cards are 3.5" x 2", but don’t be afraid to get creative! Rounded corners, square cards, or even mini cards can help you stand out while remaining professional.

2. Keep It Simple and Legible

Your card should be easy to read. Choose a clean font, avoid clutter, and make sure your text is large enough to be legible. Stick to two or three colors that match your brand.

3. Use High-Quality Materials

Thin, flimsy cards feel cheap. Opt for thicker cardstock (at least 14pt or 16pt), and consider finishes like:

  • Matte: A smooth, non-glossy look

  • Glossy: Vibrant and eye-catching

  • Soft-Touch: A velvety feel that adds a premium touch

4. Add a Unique Feature

Want to be memorable? Try adding:

Foiling for a touch of luxury

Spot UV Coating to make logos or text pop

A QR Code linking to your website or portfolio

5. Don’t Forget the Back!

Many people leave the back blank, but that’s valuable real estate! Use it for:

  • A tagline

  • Your social media handles

  • A special offer or discount

  • Your services/products

6. Double-Check Print Readiness

Before printing, make sure your design:

✔ Includes a 0.125" bleed for edge-to-edge printing

✔ Uses CMYK color mode (not RGB) for accurate colors

✔ Is 300 DPI resolution for sharp, professional results

A business card isn’t just a piece of paper—it’s a marketing tool. Make sure yours reflects your brand in the best way possible!
